BREEDING PROGRAM

Animal health interventions aim to improve both the quality and quantity of goat production. After several years of distributing goats to families in Mombin-Crochu (2012–2019), GDAC decided to establish a better-structured farm to strengthen livestock production and continue supporting vulnerable families.

Since 2020, the farm has been gradually developed with fencing, separate areas for mothers, newborns, males, and females, as well as a shelter to protect the animals from severe weather, predators, and theft. A permanent water point and plots for growing forage have also been established.

These facilities will improve breeding, feeding, and animal health monitoring while facilitating the work of veterinary agents, farmers, and agronomists. The farm will serve as a model for goat breeding and help strengthen GDAC’s long-term support program for vulnerable families in Mombin-Crochu.

NURSERY PROGRAM

For several years, GDAC has strengthened its environmental program through reforestation, tree nurseries, and community awareness. Training sessions are organized for farmers and schools to promote environmental protection and sustainable practices.

Each year, nurseries produce young trees that are distributed and planted, particularly in mountainous areas and zones at risk of erosion. These activities help restore degraded land, protect soil and water resources, reduce the impacts of climate change, preserve biodiversity, and support local agriculture.

Expanding animal care
  • - With a $50 donation, you help provide medicine for a mobile veterinary clinic. Animal owners and GDAC projects cover about 25% of the medical costs of a clinic, GDAC-US continues to subsidize mobile clinic activities.
    - $2000 (Per agent)- To increase our reach and ensure adequate veterinary coverage, we need to educate two more veterinary field agents.

Thank you

to our donors who have made

this all possible

MOBILE CLINIC
P1010219_edited.jpg

Despite the political and economic challenges Haiti has faced in recent years, veterinary agents continue their work by organizing three mobile clinics each month in different communities of Mombin-Crochu, while also responding to urgent cases almost daily. Since the program was established, there has been a significant decrease in animal deaths caused by various diseases.

  • To maintain and improve these results, veterinary agents are requesting continued support from GDAC-USA to strengthen the Mombin-Crochu community pharmacy with medicines, vaccines, medical supplies, and veterinary equipment. This support will strengthen field interventions, increase farmers’ confidence, and contribute to the long-term improvement of animal health and livestock production.
